On December 28th, 2010 The Wisconsin Nicaragua Wheelchair Project loaded and shipped a 40 foot container full of wheelchairs and other needed items to Familias Especiales in Matagalpa, Nicaragua. A special thank you to all who made this possible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The future of the Wisconsin/Nicaragua Wheelchair Project is taking shape and we are very excited by recent events. In January we will be moving into a spacious warehouse space that, together with the Wisconsin Medical Project, WNWP will be renting from Centro Hispano in Madison. This space is ideal for our work – adequate square footage, great location, loading dock and walk- in access. The warehouse is connected to the Centro Hispano, and we anticipate a close and fruitful relationship. We look forward to providing volunteer opportunities to youth through Centro Hispano, and to learning about and fostering each others work for Hispanic populations in Madison and in Central America and the Caribbean.

We will be moving into the new warehouse on or about January 1st, 2011. The warehouse (and Centro Hispano) is located on West Badger Road in Madison, just behind the Metro South Transfer Point.

Another very exciting development is the establishment of a WNWP collection hub in St. Paul, MN. This has been accomplished with the dedication of a team of hardworking and committed volunteers in St. Paul, headed up by Dave O’Brien - who has spent time in Nicaragua working with Familias Especiales and came back with a strong desire to help in an ongoing way. We recently received a container of wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, standers and other supplies that Dave and his team collected in the St. Paul area, and they are committed for the long haul.
A special thank-you to Dave O’Brien, Dave Brudevold, Miriam Simon, Roundy’s Supermarkets, Inc. and the many other volunteers from St. Paul who are making it all possible!!!
